What a boner

Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo (Mike Bigelow). 90 minutes. Opens Friday (August 12). For venues and times, see Movies, page 90. Rating: N Rating: N

If you want to know what writers Rob Schneider and Harris Goldberg think of their target audience, the movie’s poster says it all. There sits Schneider with the tower of Pisa leaning like a mighty phallus behind him, which makes perfect sense since the movie takes place in Amsterdam. Hey, Europe is Europe, right?

Don’t misunderstand. I thought the first flick was silly and fun. I like stupid humour, but it actually has to be funny, not just stupid. Merely saying the words “man-whore,” “he-bitch” and “boner” just doesn’t cut it.

It doesn’t help that every joke feels like the outtakes another director would’ve left on the cutting room floor, a collection of downright nasty scenes insulting Asians, blacks, seniors and the physically challenged. There’s politically incorrect and then there’s just wrong.

Do you really care about the plot, which finds Deuce, once again a gigolo, trying to help his buddy T.J. ( Eddie Griffin ) find the infamous man-whore killer (hee hee, man-whore)? Would you be at all surprised to find out that doing this means escorting a series of undatable freaks? Don’t get me started on the Chernobyl disaster bit that’s beyond offensive.

Cheap laughs at everyone’s expense, and Hollywood just keeps ’em coming. I think we know who’s the real whore.
