YOUNG PEOPLE FUCKING (Martin Gero) Rating: NNNN
Young People Fucking delivers precisely what it promises: five different vignettes in which 11 attractive, enthusiastic young people go at it from a variety of positions, perspectives and motivations.
There’s the First Date (Callum Blue and Diora Baird), the Best Friends (Aaron Abrams, who co-wrote the film with director Martin Gero, and Carly Pope), the Couple (Kristin Booth and Josh Dean), the Exes (Sonja Bennett and Josh Cooke) and, finally, the Threesome (Peter Oldring, Natalie Lisinska and Ennis Esmer). Though all the action seems to take place in the course of one night, the segments are independent of one another. Flipping back and forth among them gives the film the momentum of a door-slamming bedroom farce.
Nimble writing and appealing performances (Booth and Dean are standouts, with Abrams and Pope close behind) make YPF fun, smart and sexy, and give it a welcome surge of warmth near the end. (Oh, grow up.)
