The Eastwood Factor

THE EASTWOOD FACTOR (WB, 2010) D: Richard Schickel. Rating: NNNN DVD package: none Rating: NNNN

There isn’t much detail in Eastwood scholar Richard Schickel’s overview of Clint Eastwood’s 50-year acting and directing career, but there is a great deal of concise critical insight into his themes and development as an artist, as well as a look at the man behind the work.

Most of the movie consists of watching clips while Morgan Freeman narrates. Then Eastwood weighs in with his personal interest in the material, his philosophy of movies and life, and the odd production story. He’s thoughtful and articulate.

Eastwood has had a more varied career than the westerns and cop flicks he’s usually associated with.

Check out a few of the titles highlighted in The Eastwood Factor and you’ll see he’s good with character-driven comedy, romance and drama. His movies are easy to find.

Earlier this year, Warner re-released a ton of them, individually and as a box set, called Clint Eastwood: Warner Bros. Pictures – 35 Films, 35 Years.
