THE MARINE 3: HOMEFRONT (Fox, 2013) D: Scott Wiper, w/ Mike Mizanin, Neal McDonough. Rating: N Blu-ray package: NNN Rating: N
The Marine 3 has one punch-up, two explosions and a hailstorm of gunfire, all of it adequate at best and most of it shot aboard a derelict ferry where the baddies are holding our hero’s sister hostage.
Said hero is a battle-hardened Marine sergeant home on two weeks’ leave. He has nothing to do with either of the first two movies, which makes The Marine a brilliant franchise. Any old passable lead and action story will do.
Mike Mizanin shoots and punches acceptably, but his look of intense concentration can equally be read as intense stupidity.
The extras have a loose, homemade feel and feature lots of Mizanin, who is fairly funny there’s also a feature about the perils of shooting aboard a real-life derelict ferry.
EXTRAS Making-of doc, boat tour doc, Mizanin doc and video journal, extra casting doc. English, French audio. English, French, Spanish subtitles.
