Haar’s documentary tells the story of two young creators: Kutiman, an Israeli artist who remixes YouTube videos into elaborate multi-track productions, and Princess Shaw, an utterly unknown New Orleans singer and songwriter whom he’s decided to feature in his next project, unbeknownst to her.
The movie spends most of its first hour with Princess, which unbalances it a little. She’s a compelling subject with a terrific voice, but Haar teases the story a little too long. Once Kutiman releases his remix, though, Thru You Princess finds its footing and becomes a lovely portrait of artists coming together to make one another shine.
