Festival regular Fridriksson (Cold Fever, The Sunshine Boy) returns with a slender but intriguing look at the work of the late Georg Gudni, who revolutionized Icelandic landscape painting with an impressionistic approach in the 80s. (Think Rothko, but with earth tones.)
Fridriksson and co-director Bernburg explore Gudni’s legacy through interviews with contemporaries and critics – and Viggo Mortensen, who published a collection of his work and speaks eloquently about its import. There’s also an archival interview with Gudni himself, who discusses his process in a charmingly distracted way.
