#13. Redd Kross

Rating: NNNNN

If suburban Los Angeles was punk’s Bethlehem, then Redd Kross were its shepherds. The McDonald brothers (Steve and Jeff) formed this tremendously influential group in the late 70s, and their musical footprints can be followed all the way into the grunge era. Unlike like their American Hardcore brethren (Black Flag, Germs), Redd Kross, true pop culture junkies that they are, aren’t above writing a song about breakfast cereal and don’t think melody is such a dirty word. They’ve almost completed their first record in over a decade, featuring the Neurotica lineup, and will be blasting new jams at this rare NXNE marquee show. Redd Kross rock Lee’s Palace June 14, 1 am.
