#15. Money Mark

Rating: NNNNN

Money Mark might be best known for his work with seminal rap group the Beastie Boys – he contributed keys on Check Your Head and Ill Communication – but did you know he’s responsible for the catchy rif f at the beginning of Beck’s Where It’s At? Besides collaborating with some of the industry’s best and brightest, the revered producer and keyboardist also has a solid solo career. With six albums under his belt, he’s tackled everything from jazz to indie to electronica, while his latest effort, Brand New By Tomorrow (Brushfire), released last year, sees the artist working his pipes.

Concertgoers can expect an eclectic NXNE performance by this underground legend, but if you show up for the gig (Horseshoe, June 12, midnight), which is also the NOW Showcase, you’ll also catch Vancouver’s Small Sins, Edmonton’s the Wet Secrets, Toronto rockers the Coast and later, garage rockers Flash Lightnin’.
