#18. Dundas Square music market

Rating: NNNNN

On a normal day it’s best to avoid this overcrowded, ad-filled downtown space. But during North By Northeast, there’s no better place to hang out. For three days, the area will be transformed into the NXNE Indie Music Market, which basically means festival-goers can eat, drink and listen to bands all in the great outdoors. Besides watching the masses come in and out of the Eaton Centre, revellers will be able to visit booths where they can chat up some of their favourite artists, browse local businesses’ offerings of discs, posters and T-shirts and even catch a ball hockey game between NHL alumni and music industry folks. While all that is great, it’s the music that’s really the main event. From Thursday 10 am (June 12) to late Saturday (June 14), top-notch talents like Small Sins, Teenage Head, D-Sisive, Priya Thomas and Bran Van 3000 will wow hipsters and passers?by alike. It doesn’t get much better than this.
