#22. Ted Leo and the Pharmacists

Rating: NNNNN

New Jersey-based rocker Ted Leo has been churning out infectious tunes for nearly two decades, first as a hardcore guitarist and now as frontman with the band that bears his name. Although he’s never quite achieved the mass appeal of some of his contemporaries, that doesn’t mean he’s any less deserving of Toronto’s affection. His frenetic punk numbers, including the tracks off his most recent record, Living With The Living, are packed with thoughtful, literate lyrics, gritty distorted guitars and wildly infectious choruses. If there’s one band to see this NXNE weekend, this is it (Mod Club, June 12, 8 pm Yonge-Dundas Square, June 13, 9 pm).
