#23. D-Sisive

Rating: NNNNN

Finally re-emerging after a six-year absence from the local rap scene, Slim Shady-era Eminem disciple D-Sisive (June 13 , Yonge-Dundas Square, 4 pm Rivoli, 1 am) has dropped his pop-culture-referencing tendencies in favour of real-life rap music on his pensive sophomore project, The Book, just released on Urbnet. He disappeared to deal with some family issues after his successful European tour with DJ Format in 2005 and the release of his mixtape Yesterday, but D-Sisive hasn’t exactly been quiet since Marshall Mathers faded into irrelevance – just very low-key. The white rapper throne still remains vacant maybe the quirky Canadian who was once “Just A Child (J.A.C.)” has finally become the man he needs to be to live up to his potential and supplant VH1’s John Brown as the King of the Burbs.
