Thanks a lot, Pantera. Just cuz you were so far ahead of your time doesn’t mean you have the right to do something as pretentious as, say, influence countless metal bands who blatantly swipe your riffs and attitude. Such is the case with Montreal-based A Perfect Murder, who tend to play copycat with Pantera’s sound, adding a dash of vintage Metallica for good measure. Their fifth release does sound like the band are trying to put their own stamp on things, but A Perfect Murder still get sucked into that vicious cycle of hero worship and musical ripoffs. The songs are passable when the band get more thrashy, but because of weak filler, the album falls short of making any real statement.

A Perfect Murder rock the Opera House tonight (Thursday, December 1).
