Corn Sister Carolyn Mark and her ever-expanding cast of Roommates go to town saluting the soundtrack to Robert Altman’s rep-cinema classic Nashville. Unfortunately, most of the participants — including Neko Case, Dottie Cormier, Dallas Good and Carl Newman — go for laughs with tongue-in-cheek renditions of the songs when there’s enough contextual humour in the concept to play it straight. Kelly Hogan realizes that, and her spellbinding take on Dues stands three haystacks in a pickup truck above the rest. Hopefully, Hogan will reprise the moment at her Horseshoe gig tonight (Thursday, January 31).
