Those who've seen the movie can best appreciate this, since they'll be able to connect the emotional dots. But there's lots to like about this disc of Beatles songs used in the film; the music itself is terrific and well sung. But does this set add anything to the original tracks? Sometimes.
The arrangements remedy some of the problems in the originals, most notably by adding decent guitar solos to early Beatles tunes that were let down by George Harrison's admittedly melodic but not exactly virtuosic efforts. And the unabashedly Joplinesque vocals from Dana Fuchs on Oh Darling and Why Don't We Do It In The Road really kick ass. Big bonus: Joe Cocker singing Come Together.
