Apparently this album’s title alludes to oral sex, but I actually find Honkin’ On Bobo more masturbatory than blow-jobesque since it’s just Aerosmith doing Aerosmith. I mean this in a good way: they’ve brought a fair degree of old-fashioned vim to this collection of 11 covers and one original, and Steven Tyler’s vocals sound good and the band sounds great. Joe Perry sings two tunes, which didn’t make my stereo vomit, so they pass. The covers aren’t too predictable, you can’t hear any elderly wheezing, and it’s rockin’ enough. It also comes with a mini-harmonica key chain.
Aerosmith play with Cheap Trick at Hamilton’s Copps Coliseum tonight (Thursday April 22).
