Warm sounds abound on African Guitar Summit 2, featuring a worthy lineup of some of Canada’s most talented players and singers of the motherland’s music, including Donné Roberts and Adam Soloman. Special notice should be given to Mighty Popo, whose Frère Moussa features uplifting xylophone arrangements, and whose second track, Urugendo, radiates spirit. Madagascar Slim’s picking also stands out as particularly impressive on an album packed with excellent tracks. Credit is also due to producer Todd Fraracci, who gives these distinguished performers the lush, clear sound they deserve.
The African Guitar Summit artists reconvene at the Lula Lounge December 22.
