AFRICANISM VOL. II

Rating: NNN

The French have an uncomfortable fascination with Africa. On the one hand, they love the sounds on the other, try getting into a nightclub in Paris if you’re black. In this two-CD mix, two of the highest-profile Parisian deep house DJs – Bob Sinclar and Martin Solveig – mix their favourite Afro-house releases of the past couple of years, mainly singles originally released on Yellow or featuring producers affiliated with that label. Sinclar’s mix is fun but not as interesting as his history leads you to expect. Solveig’s CD compensates, though, with a deeper and less colonial attitude toward African-influenced house music.
