Shocked by the great shrug of indifference that greeted Air’s prog rock mishap 10,000 Hz Legend, the retro-future pop fops deal with the sales disaster by regressing to the innocuous romance confections that made their Moon Safari debut the perfect antidote for a grunge hangover. The sweetly shimmering Talkie Walkie is uniformly pleasant – bubbling over with cooing love ballads – but times have changed and that lucrative dinner-party niche for which Air have designed Talkie Walkie has now been filled by the likes of Norah Jones and Diana Krall. C’est dommage.
