It's never been easy distinguishing between the sounds of post-post-rock trio Labradford and the hum of an electric refrigerator, but my old Kenmore has never sounded this dull.
There's minimalism and then there's silence. The four tracks on Fixed::Content average 10 beats per minute and barely have a pulse, and while there are subtle harmonies here and there, waiting for them to materialize is pointless. While you're bored silly by Labradford's vaguely goth soundscapes, amuse yourself by imagining what producer Steve Albini was doing behind the glass while all this was going on. Things do pick up to a slow drip toward the end of Fixed::Content, but if you're lucky, you'll be sound asleep by that time.
