AMP FIDDLER Waltz Of A Ghetto Fly (Genuine/PIAS) Rating: NNNN

Rating: NNNN

The two earlier UK EPs released by Amp Fiddler made it easy to write off the Detroit electro-soul threat as just another member of the crowd who figure owning a Fender Rhodes qualifies them to be the new Donny Hathaway. But Waltz Of A Ghetto Fly indicates there’s a broader scope of influence at work – Herbie Hancock, George Duke, Marvin Gaye and even some Sly Stone – and a unique Amp Fiddler voice beginning to emerge. He deserves to be considered along with D’Angelo, Maxwell, Cody ChesnuTT and Raphael Saadiq as a serious modern soul threat with potential to eclipse them all.
