Anagram (Dead Astronaut) Rating: NNN

Rating: NNN

This debut disc by Oshawa’s Anagram, one of Toronto’s best adopted bands of the moment, shows the group have yet to capture their intense live sound on disc but still have some interesting things going on. Although their sound is frequently compared to the Fun House-period Stooges, that comparison now seems to have more to do with the presence of a saxophone. In fact, some of the songs bear a closer resemblance to the Modern Lovers, the Fall or even Leonard Cohen than to the confrontational rockers. Sure, they jump around stylistically a little too much and the powerful rhythm section needs to be better recorded, but these guys definitely show promise.
