You'd think former Deadly Snakes singer/guitarist Andre Ethier might be itching to return to his garage rock roots right about now, but you're in for a stunning surprise. He's gone in the opposite direction on Born Of Blue Fog, heading straight for Scott Walker drama.
Although he doesn't have Walker's pipes, the chamber pop sweep of the more ambitious arrangements and the dark tone seem to share a similar Americana-to-European-art-song derivation. Ethier's looser approach feels closer in its loner spirit to Bill Fay circa Time Of The Last Persecution, though. In any case, it's an impressive addition to his growing body of work by a musician who was in danger of being known only as a great visual artist.
