Annie Lennox Bare (BMG) Rating: NN
Rating: NN
Clearly having difficulty figuring out where she fits in with what’s happening in contemporary music, Annie Lennox decides against the typical diva moves – namely Celine Dion-style power ballads and Madonna-esque club-trend chasing – and instead tries a stripped-down confessional soul pop concept that has its origins in Carole King’s Tapestry. The incredible sales success of Norah Jones, particularly with Lennox’s aging-boomer demographic, suggests that the quieter, gentler and vocally driven Bare might click with her audience, but the unrelenting minor-key moodiness of it all makes for a dull listening experience.
