I guess it's safe to say that 9/11 and the post-9/11 American fallout was the best thing to happen to punk rock since Reaganomics. Now we have all this stuff to call bullshit on, like an illegal war and the deficit. Which is why bands like Anti-Flag (who, incidentally, are on the same major label as revolutionaries like Clay Aiken and Avril Lavigne) feel compelled to condemn the world for their disillusioned generation. Fine. That's awesome. But if the medium of your message is music, then it helps to offer something other than blatant, unoriginal Bad Religion rip-offs with contrived lyrics that are as subtle as a kick in the face. These guys are no dummies, as their accompanying political mini-essays attest, but no matter how loud they scream, the fact is, musically there's nothing passionate enough here to warrant much attention.
