ASHLEY MacISAAC

ASHLEY MacISAAC (Decca/Universal) Rating: NN Rating: NN

Yet another comeback bid for controversy-prone fiddler Ashley MacIsaac finds him in the company of producer/engineer Roger Greenawalt (No Doubt) and a half-million-dollar budget. Their strategy is to return to the pop crossover formula of 95’s Hi, How Are You Today? — MacIsaac’s last big success before he pissed it all away — but the crackpot idea of having the fiddling prodigy sing Nashville-manufactured country tunes probably isn’t the surest way to get him back on radio and into the hearts of former fans. On the bright side, a poor sales performance by this stylistically scattered disc may expedite the release of MacIsaac’s long-threatened tell-all autobiography. Can’t wait!
