It turns out the aggressive turn of Atmosphere’s last album, Seven’s Travels, was just an aside. The Minneapolis-based duo of Slug (the rhymes) and Ant (the beats) have come back with a record you’d have flipped your Yankees fitted cap over in 1995 and are going to blow a load while hearing now, because this kind of quality is even rarer these days. What it is? Rugged, ragged soul, blues and gospel breaks, beautiful loops that complement perfectly Slug’s melodious introspective, salient, wise-guy white-boy flows. Thirteen tracks straight.
Atmosphere hit the Opera House this Saturday (October 8).
