Atomic 7

Rating: NNNN

On Atomic 7’s second shaggadelic outing, Brian Connelly and his instrumental rock demons venture further into the fab stylistic experimentation they broached on Gowns By Edith Head. Definitely not just a fucking surf band, the trio craft detailed cinematic soundscapes that evoke bumbling spy movie parodies, moonshiny Dukes of Hazzard outtakes, deliciously cheesy fake sitcom themes (So Long Happy Days is killer) and swank soundtracks for swingin’ 60s flicks. Connelly’s managed to coax out the intricate guitar nuances he needs to distinguish between the staggering variety of genres, and the thoughtful production, phrasing and dynamics make the tunes speak volumes more than most lyrics-based pop songs.
