Anyone who's heard Atomic 7's reluctant frontman, Brian Connelly, pick a guitar knows he's a top-notch twanger, except perhaps Connelly himself. Like past Atomic 7 releases, ...Something For The Girl With Everything is another showcase for Connelly's impressive versatility. Thing is, he's already demonstrated that he can easily move from barn-burning western themes to loungey jukebox pop and 50s-style reverb rockers. What Atomic 7 could really use is some focus. Perhaps an outside producer or at least a trusted musician pal with a decent set of ears might've helped rein in Connelly's desire to shoot the works. Atomic 7 could easily have turned this into a stone-solid instrumental C&W set, which is the way the album begins before splitting off in five different directions, only to double back again.
Atomic 7 rumble at the Horseshoe tonight (Thursday, April 5).
