Auf Der Maur (Capitol) Rating: NNN
The former Hole and Smashing Pumpkins bassist has followed her own drum. With the help of Josh Homme and Brant Bjork, the latter of Queens of the Stone Age and both of Kyuss, among others, she's put out a moderately rocking solo project whose tone is set by her sometimes breathy, high vocals. It's pretty alternative stuff, with angry songs, ballads and malaise anthems all represented. The rockingness saves the album, as a lot of her influences seem to stem from semi-played-out 90s rock. This disc won't let down those who anticipated it.
