Okay. Let's just get it out of the way. Ex-Libertine reject Pete Doherty is a total junkie fuck-up who couldn't walk the line if he tried. Incredibly, though, through the haze of heroin and incarcerations comes a shockingly good batch of rock, pop and punk tunes that reaffirm that, sometimes, creativity simply can't be stifled. Although Albion's success may have a bit to do with Mick Jones's gritty, organic production, the truth is that Doherty and his bandmates have crafted an album of deeply morose but altogether jangly songs oozing regret and self-awareness.
