If you’re looking for a decent holiday-themed mix you can bring along to Christmas parties and sneak into the CD player to save everyone from the same tired old yuletide stomach-turners, Stones Throw might be able to help you out.
Producer/DJ Peanut Butter Wolf’s 14-track Badd Santa compilation won’t save your entire evening, but his tasty selection of funk, jazz, hiphop, left-field pop and soul numbers – including James Brown’s Go Power At Christmas Time, Super Jay’s Santa’s Party Rap, the Soul Saints’ Santa’s Got A Bag Of Soul and Vince Guaraldi’s Skating – will at least give you a solid 45-minute respite from the usual dreck. No explicit lyrics means it’s cool for kids to play with parents present.
