An all-girl banjo-heavy country-punk band from Stockholm, Sweden, Baskery might seem like a stream-of-consciousness stoner idea taken way too seriously. In practice, the trio actually have some teen-drama-friendly moments on tracks like The Brave and The Oscar Jr Restaurant Bar.
Unfortunately, when the sisters stray off the beaten path, things get less listenable. Case in point: the strumming on Spoken Word sounds as if it was lifted from mind-numbing mid-90s acoustic grunge, while the jarring refrain from Out-Of-Towner ends up being about as cringe-worthy as any Cowboy Troy cut.
Baskery play the Dakota July 24.
