With Ben Kweller’s brief career in music transformed into a monument to major-label stupidity before he was old enough to drink himself through it, the former “next Kurt Cobain” is apparently now ready to settle for the “next Jonny Polonsky.” Unfortunately, the songwriting on Sha Sha is nowhere near clever enough for that, and the monotone slacker-boy resignation with which Kweller groans his silly love songs makes his Weezer-modelled tunes even less appealing.
