Big Gipp

Big Gipp Mutant Mindframe (Goodie Mob Records/KOCH) Rating: NNN Rating: NNN

In terms of Goodie Mobsters’ side projects, Big Gipp’s Mutant Mindframe is not at all the risk-taking revelation that Cee-Lo Green and His Perfect Imperfections turned out to be. It’s not even as adventurous as the Dungeon Family disc. Instead, Big Gipp conservatively sticks with mid-tempo dirty South crunkness, deviating only momentarily from the predictable Coupe de Ville bounce to ponder the Atlanta child murders, effectively killing the party vibe that “Mr. Get Down” had been slowly building with cameos by OutKast’s Andr&eacute 3000, Sleepy Brown, 8Ball and Witch Doctor. Who knows? Maybe Khujo and T-Mo were the real creative spirits behind Goodie Mob.
