Maybe it’s just because summer’s almost here and we’ll all need a new soundtrack for those hot and lazy lemonade-drinking days, but there’s something wonderfully appealing about the soft and comfortable place Birds is able to tuck you into. Initially a solo project of Toronto songwriter Morgan Ross, the Birds’ latest incarnation features a full band adept at creating warm, inviting numbers that bring to mind the Weakerthans’ more reflective moments. At just seven songs, the record swings at times like a sedated Ryan Adams while still offering plenty of Ross’s own personality. Birds of Wales get busy at Lee’s Palace Friday (May 5).
