Apparently, just about anyone can get a tribute album these days. Hell, even Creed, Evanescence and Korn have all been celebrated. That said, it’s nice to see a band as important as Black Flag get the kudos they deserve from bands that sound genuinely interested in carrying the torch of the anti-establishment outfit. And while Black Flag were never that complex musically, their energy and determination aren’t as easy to replicate. Successfully fusing their sound with Black Flag, bands like Converge, Zao and Most Precious Blood stand out, and the only real disappointment comes from the typically boring Bleeding Through and their pointless tampering with the classic My War. Apart from that, Black is a moving document of some of America’s best punk.
