Blackfield is the side project of Israeli rocker Aviv Geffen and Porcupine Tree's Steven Wilson, both of whom many of you have probably never heard of. A slightly mellower version of Porcupine Tree, Blackfield is still full-on prog, swiping massive pages out of the Pink Floyd and Alan Parsons songbooks. This is totally spacey, spacious acoustic and electric guitar rock with pianos, Mellotron, strings and ethereal harmonies impressively performed by the pair. It sounds like a barren landscape dotted with naked trees, but maybe that's just the images on the liner notes talking. I'm not sure what the pic of a baby in a jar is supposed to mean, but Blackfield do take themselves very seriously in that way that only death metal, emo and prog really can, although their concepts are vaguer than death or love. It's freaky how much this sounds like the 70s.
