This is Andy Dragazis's third album under the banner of Blue States. Over the course of that series, the project's mutated from solo basement noodling to five-piece instro-psych ambient and now to power trio lyrical pop. Dragazis obviously doesn't give two figs about sticking to any specific stylistic rails, and that stance has probably screwed him out of the recognition he deserves. Still, for him, and for those of us paying attention, the success-flouting is part of the charm. This outing is like the best possible love child of an orgy involving Bauhaus, the Cure, Psychedelic Furs and Roxy Music. The end result is something that sounds very like a new romantic (read gloomier) version of Badly Drawn Boy.
