Bodysong

Bodysong (EMI) Rating: NNN

Rating: NNN

If there were still any lingering questions about exactly who was responsible for pushing Radiohead away from guitar rock and toward art rock experimentation, Bodysong provides the answer. On this score to a film about life from birth to death, Radiohead guitarist Jonny Greenwood abandons rock altogether for jazz, contemporary classical and laptop twiddling. It’s a tasteful, largely understated set, featuring small ensembles, horn quartets and very few guitars, a natural extension of the lush string arrangements that have lurked in the background of Radiohead’s last few albums. Infuriating for MOJO readers who want Greenwood to play more power chords, but intriguing for anyone with a curious ear.
