BRANT BJORK

Rating: NNN

Considering that Brant Bjork put out the Tres Dias and Somera Sol albums last year, coming up with a third so quickly would be an amazing feat had the former Kyuss and Fu Manchu drummer not recorded Punk Rock Guilt (aka The New Jersey Sessions) back in the winter of 2005 and stashed it away for the right moment.

Contrary to what the title suggests, there’s nothing punk rock about these lengthy riff-heavy jam. If anything, it’s a welcome return to the well-smoked self-indulgence of the Sons Of Kyuss days, before his desert-dwelling buddies started believing the stoner rock hype. It’s not Bjork’s most profound creation, but I’ll take Punk Rock Guilt over anything by Queens of the Stone Age.

Brant Bjork raises the El Mocambo roof Friday (June 13) at midnight.
