My older brother dated a Brazilian girl once. The first time I met her I was convinced she was the hottest lady ever. But the more I got to know her, the more I realized she was just an everyday girl – albeit one with a dazzling collection of bikinis. Similarly, on first listen the hot playing, smooth vocals (occasionally delivered en français) and Gilberto-like melodies on this record make you think you’ve found a real knockout. However, repeated exposure reveals a collection of plain-Jane tunes dressed up in alluring production.
