MILES DAVIS Kind Of Blue

“This was an incredible step beyond everything out there when it came out.Everybody’s playing – John Coltrane,Cannonball Adderley,a wonderful rhythm section and appearances by two of my favourite piano players,Bill Evans and Wynton Kelly.Kelly’s solo on Freddie Freeloader is the highlight.”

STEELY DAN Aja

“Up to that point,Steely Dan’s records were patchy – there were a few good tunes, but the writing didn’t come from one cohesive source. That changed with Aja, which was the most amazing thing to come out of rock ’n’roll at the time. The title track is like a minisuite, and it proved we were moving on in the area I work in,jazz fusion. It’s a tremendous musical composition with some wonderful players.”

JOHN COLTRANE A Love Supreme

“This really established John Coltrane’s role as a master of modal playing. There’s so much passion and direction, and Alvin Jones is on fire.It totally pushed the harmonic envelope.”
