On this tribute album, Brian Setzer sticks roughly to music from real rockabilly years. He includes well-known classics by guys like Carl Perkins as well as obscure stuff by guys you may never have heard of like Kenny Parchman. There’s one Elvis track and a couple of Johnny Cash songs. The list includes Red Hot, Real Wild Child, Mona Lisa, Get Rhythm and Peroxide Blonde In A Hopped Up Model Ford. Staying as true to original form as possible, Setzer uses a real rockabilly pianist and plays an old Gretsch Duo Jet guitar through a tiny Supro amp. The drums reproduce the originals’ set-up of one cymbal and turnaround fills. Very authentic and upbeat, just the thing for jumpin’ hepcats who aren’t retro’d out.
