Bryan Ferry, Roxy Music's former frontman, is known for his deliberate, careful construction and clean, cool delivery, so how in the world was he going to tackle the rugged, edgy songs of Bob Dylan? By doing what he usually does, of course.
On Dylanesque, Ferry puts his own stamp on 11 Dylan hits including All Along The Watchtower, Positively 4th Street and Gates Of Eden.
The first thing you'll notice is that he isn't trying to emulate Dylan; there are no scratchy vocals or mumbled phrases here. Instead, Ferry polishes the rough edges, offering a pristine but still casual listen.
Fortunately, these songs aren't so cleaned up that they're devoid of personality - in fact, quite the opposite. Ferry manages to breathe new life into them while maintaining their integrity and original purpose.
