Bubba Sparxxx Deliverance (Interscope) Rating: NN
Timbaland picks weird proteges. From shirt-spinning Petey Pablo to the satanically awful Magoo, he seems to have an agenda when deciding whom to bless with his famed production magic. My theory is that he wants to outshine the vocalists. If that's the case, he's done it again on Bubba Sparxxx's sophomore effort, Deliverance. It's not just Tim on the boards, though - Organized Noise also provide sonic backdrops for Bubba's forgettable flow. Sparxxx's hick upbringing provides motivation for imaginative country and guitar samples, but it really is his flow that does him in, never rising above the beats and outshone by the album's little-known guest MCs. As Caucasian rhymesayers go, he's better than Uncle Cracker but nowhere near as cherubically lovable as Haystak.
