Since three of the four CDs in this Buffalo Springfield archival bonanza are dedicated solely to unreleased demos and session outtakes, the final disc compiling the country-rock supergroup's two proper studio albums seems thrown in as an afterthought. But the remastering job is stunningly great, particularly on Mr. Soul, where the guitar break hits like an ice pick. Although there's nothing here that surpasses what the Buffalo Springfield officially released, the unadorned early versions of Neil Young's Flying On The Ground Is Wrong and Down To The Wire, along with his guitar/vocal sketches of The Rent Is Always Due, Round And Round And Round, Old Laughing Lady and There Goes My Babe (pitched to Sonny & Cher) are all very intriguing, as is the trippy studio jam Buffalo Raga. Some will bemoan the lack of live material and the absence of track-by-track commentary from the members, but the fact that so many of these unheard recordings have finally surfaced is reason enough to celebrate.
