BUSTA RHYMES

BUSTA
RHYMES It Ain’t Safe No More (J)
Rating: NN Rating: NN

A one-trick MC who compensates for his lack of variety with tsunami-like energy, Busta Rhymes is one of those rare MCs who can spew pure gibberish and make it sound profound, or at least intense. It Ain’t Safe is Busta’s statement on the state of the world, but beyond a few ominous-sounding interludes, you’d never know it. Instead of anything vaguely coherent, Busta calls in the usual heavy hitters — the Neptunes, Swizz Beats and Jay Dee — and shouts about mochaccinos, Waco, groupies and how he can’t hear anything in his headphones. The crushing lack of excitement suggests that Busta’s empty rhymes have caught up with him. How many times can you shout “woo hah” and feel good about it?
