CANCEL WINTER

Rating: NNN

If the majors are hoping to sign someone before the end of the year, they should take a close look at Toronto’s Cancel Winter. These guys have managed to combine emo, new wave, indie and radio-friendly rock, all on one slickly produced record.

The songs are infectious enough to be played on rock stations across the country. But this is music for 16-year-olds who just got their hands on the first Killers record. Liesstillnow is too derivative to be embraced by forward-thinking rock fans – How Long sounds a lot like a Killers track Far Gone is obnoxiously epic – but to make it big you have to target the teens.

Cancel Winter play the El Mocambo December 21.
