On their debut LP, this local boy-girl electro-hop duo engage in the ironic process of trying to steal Thunderheist’s thunder. While It Factor constantly nods to its so-now club anthem influences, the glossy, retail-ready total never equals or exceeds the sum of its borrowed parts.
There are a few good moments the synth bells in Rich Kids are catchy, but they’re also reminiscent of CFCF’s remix of Triceratops by Health. It just feels like something is missing (it’s probably that elusive “it factor”). Also, when MC Icon the Anomali asks, “The question is, can you handle my chocolat?” I can’t help but cringe at the ridiculous, overly suggestive euphemism.
Candy Coated Killahz rock the Wrongbar tonight (Thursday, May 8).
