CANIBUS

Rating: NN

This is the Canibus man’s first joint since a brief and inexplicable term in the U.S. Army. Here, the formerly scene-stealing battler returns with another of his half-baked concept records (see: “C” True Hollywood Stories). Hiphop For $ale is set up as an ironic album about Canibus selling out, but the idea quickly dissolves into meandering tracks demonstrating only dull glimmers of his former brilliance. Most typical of the Canibus’s microphone misguidedness is an unintentionally sad number called Dear Academy that employs the Oscars as a clumsy metaphor in an ode to his former peers (including Common, Black Eyed Peas, DMX) – people who’ve run laps around him in a genre he once seemed destined to rule.
